'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie casting: Ian Somerhalder meeting rumors debunked

There was quite a bit of fan hubbub earlier this week concerning actor Ian Somerhalder of “The Vampire Diaries” and the role of casting Christian Grey in the hotly awaited “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie.

In latest “50 Shades” news, it was rumored yesterday afternoon on “Entertainmentwise” that Ian Somerhalder might be confirmed to be meeting with the producers of author EL James’ bestselling erotic novel’s adaptation for a potential part in the film. Now this Tuesday, those rumors have been debunked thanks to the latest confirmed Twitter comments from the movie makers.

While the “Fifty Shades of Grey” film is only in its beginning stages—the producers Dana Brunetti and Michael DeLuca were only confirmed last month to be at the helm—the rumor mill is running with potential stars to be cast in the leading roles. And it’s not a major surprise why: the book has become the bestselling book of all time in Britain and continues to hold its stop (quite literally) on top of the charts.

The casting of handsome billionaire Christian Grey and lovely blue-eyed Anastasia Steele are thus hot topics of conversation among fans. While no confirmed new has been made on who will be cast in the movie at this point, star Ian Somerhalder has been mentioned as a fan favorite by many for Mr. Christian Grey.

“The Vampire Diaries” actor was most recently rumored to have a confirmed meeting with the producers, but this Tuesday in “Fifty Shades of Grey” film news, the “confirmed meeting” turned out only to be a debunked rumor at this point—as producer Dana Brunetti has revealed.

A new video of Somerhalder telling his excited fans that there were plans to meet with the movie makers made their way to YouTube.com at a “Vampire Diaries” TV show convention, many fans believed that the movie casting may have begun even earlier than expected. However, Dana Brunetti tweeted yesterday on Twitter:

“Maybe [Somerhalder] was lied to by a certain someone? Nonetheless, we’re only meeting with the writers [for now],” she commented.

So at this point, at least, the producers are only focusing on finding the perfect screenwriters before the actors (which does make sense, though that may not help the wait). What has been made certain is that the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie makers have narrowed down the final four potential writers to help adapt the film.

No castings have been confirmed or even fully established at this point, but the speculation is half the fun for many fans. Either way, there is little doubt that a perfectly cast Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele will be needed for the film adaptation to be a worthy tribute to the original novel that has captured the eye—and hearts, no doubt—of so many people around the world.

Nicole Kidman Gets (Almost) Naked For V‘s Travel Issue

Nudity seems to be a theme today, doesn’t it?

This time, however, it’s not a royal in the buff, but Nicole Kidman. And she’s not quite naked — but Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele has styled her in a Chanel garment that definitely lies somewhere in the middle of the belt-miniskirt spectrum.

The 45-year-old Australian was photographed by Mario Testino for the fold-down cover of V‘s Fall 2012 Travel issue, which, if you recall, we exclusively predicted back in June. And while you’re already undoubtedly picking up the issue for the Choupette spread alone, you should still read ahead for more info as to what’s inside.

Kidman’s accompanying editorial features the actress with similarly mussed-up hair and smudged eye makeup, wearing ensembles by Miu Miu, Tom Ford, and more. The uncharacteristically unkempt look is tied to her role in Lee Daniels‘ Paperboy, in which she stars alongside Zac Efron as the wild, sexually agressive Charlotte. Alas, despite his proven modeling prowess, Efron himself doesn’t make an appearance, however he does earn a mention regarding a much buzzed-about scene which involves him being peed on by Kidman:

“The peeing thing, I didn’t think was that weird, because I was in character. That was for the jellyfish. And for me it said so much about Charlotte. One, she’s protecting him. Two, she’s tough as nails and no one else is going to pee on this guy. All of that made total sense to me. I just went for it and didn’t overthink it.”

Dreama Walker Delves Into "Compliance" Nightmare

Torn-from-the-headlines tale reveals sitcom actress' serious side.

Dreama Walker made a big impression on audiences this year in ABC’s “Don’t Trust the B---- In Apt. 23” as the fresh-faced ingénue new to the big city, bedeviled by her hedonistic, morals-free roommate (Krysten Ritter). But just before her big comedic break, the 26-year-old took on a harrowing role in writer-director Craig Zobel’s film “Compliance.”

Inspired by the disturbing real-life psychological hoaxes that plagued fast food chain restaurants and grocery stores in 2004, “Compliance” depicts a fictionalized but intensely realistic version of the chilling tableau that played out each time: a caller claiming to be a police detective calls the business and tells the supervisor that one of the female employees is suspected of theft and needs to be detained until the authorities arrive, instructing the manager and others present to perform a humiliating strip search that ultimately leads to even darker instruction.

Walker plays the teenage server targeted in the film’s increasingly harrowing scenario. It was a demanding role that required her to push herself in ways she never had before.

How did you get your head in the place it needed to be for this dark and taxing material?

Being there everyday in the small confines of this set that was constructed to look like an office and being in an apron and being naked every day and raising those stakes to myself. Allowing myself to really be frightened and to really be afraid for my freedom and life, essentially, was very taxing – every day. Coming home and decompressing and kind of letting all that out was a lot more difficult than it normally is.

You have to go from playing someone who's traumatized by these humiliating, exploitative circumstances and at the same time allow for you, Dreama, to find a comfort zone to be able to be physically vulnerable perform at your own workplace. Was that really weird – exhaling all of that anxiety for yourself, but also hold onto it for her? It had to be a tricky performance.

It was, but I was in it. It really meant a lot to me to go through, basically, the emotional roller coaster that I thought the character would experience, which would start off being defiant and to kind of get to this place where you're a little hesitant and unsure. And then ultimately becoming compliant and then resigning and just kind of having an out-of-body experience, sort of where your body goes into shock and your emotions shut down. Everything shuts down.

Had you been familiar with the real-life story, and did you dig in to the research more once this script came your way?

Yes. In 2004 I was a senior in high school and that's when it kind of came out into the public and this whole thing was released, and I had a lot of discussions about it. And of course my mom had that discussion with me where she was like, 'Remember how I told you to listen to adults? Not always.' It really kind of reworked my framework of how something so innocuous can really go so horribly awry. It's just such a knee jerk, very typical reaction from most people to see the movie and go 'Those people were so stupid – I would never do that.' I think the important thing that I really wanted to get across in this film is that you don't know until you're put into a situation like that how you'll react.

Had you ever had that kind of a fast food or waitressing job?

I worked in the restaurant business for four years, and I also worked in retail in high school. So yeah. I'd had jobs where my entire life and my ability to keep my head above water and feed myself was dependent upon my work. It was very scary when I was fired over and over again. 

Those service jobs can be weird microcosms of society, people power-playing over minimum wage positions. What was your experience with that kind of environments?

Absolutely! There were a lot of power trips. I worked in a restaurant. I guess I started working there when I was 18 and I remember the manager at the restaurant was this very sort of…like, he was an ex-actor and he was jealous and kind of mean to me all the time. I never understood why, and then eventually he fired me one day because I asked him to let me out of work early, when no one was there, to go and audition. I remember being so horrified. Anyway – sorry, that's a sob story – but it was really scary because I was trying to explain to him and begging him not to fire me, like, 'I don't know how I'm going to pay my bills. I don't know how I'm going to feed myself. I'm 18 years old. This is my job.' I was absolutely paralyzed with fear.

Do you really understand that confusion about authority figures and wanting to listen to them and be compliant?

Yes. Craig [Zobel, the director] and I also explored the idea of how psychologically when someone you know and have a relationship with, like Sandra, accuses you of something over and over again that you kind of start to believe it yourself. I was really interested in the idea where they may have been a point where Becky second-guessed herself and thought, 'Crap – Did I actually steal this money? Is this something that I did? Have they gone into the deepest, darkest forests of my psyche and do they know that in second grade I broke the teacher's pencil and didn't give it back to her? Does everyone now realize that I'm a bad person?' I think that's a very primal thing, and I think that everyone's worst fear is to be naked and to have everyone telling you that you're a bad person or a thief or a liar, or this or that. All of Becky's fears were realized.

How was the working relationship with your costars in that confined space and in those tense scenes? Did you do a lot of goofing around to relieve the pressure?

A lot. This was one of the most happy, wonderful, spectacular ensembles that I've ever had the pleasure of working with. For whatever reason everyone affiliated with this project happened to be an incredible human being and was just genuine and in it for the right reasons, and we all wanted to make this movie for the right reasons. So this experience, despite the content, was a really important one in my life.

The nudity in this film was handled very carefully. But as an actress, were you already pretty free about that sort of thing, being willing to do that in a roll if it came your way, or did you have to make a leap?

I really had to make a leap. In my opinion I never wanted to do something that was unnecessary, like, when they put a pair of boobs in the movie just to have a pair of boobs. Obviously, in this film I felt like it was essential to the story and essential to the idea and the whole concept. Craig and I had a lot of conversations about we didn't want it to be gratuitous. We didn't want it to be…I was very, very strict about not showing anything but the waist up because I didn't want this to be too sexual. We had a lot of conversations about that. 

Hollywood is also a place with its share of psychological games. Have you had to deal with anyone messing with your head in your job as an actress?
Oh, absolutely. There are a lot of stereotypes and all sorts of thing that come into play when you think about it: a young actress in Hollywood and sorts of ways that people bully you or make you think something that has been their strategy all along is your idea. It's definitely dark waters sometimes. You really have to kind of take a step back and try to figure out what people's motivations are.

* Jessica is talented actress and gorgeous to boot. But she is also quite adept at hiding her real age for years before it was finally revealed she was born in 1977. She didn't exactly lie but she wasn't outright about it too. It helps she was a latecomer to the movie biz at age of 27 previously working mostly on the stage. The porcelain-like skin and smooth features made it harder to guess her real age.

Movie notes: ‘Hit and Run’ raises a key question — what exactly is ‘graphic nudity’?

Dax Shepard’s chase comedy “Hit and Run,” which opens today, has an R rating for “pervasive language including sexual references, graphic nudity, some violence and drug content.”

That a direct quote from filmratings.com, the MPAA’s offshoot that handles such matters. Five disclaimers after the R rating qualifies “Hit and Run” as a five-star movie in some quarters, but the main question here is, what exactly is “graphic nudity”?

This disclaimer has been showing up with increasing frequency lately, most recently on the male-stripper comedy/drama “Magic Mike.” You’d think there’d be an official, textbook definition somewhere that spells out in precise detail the difference between graphic nudity and plain-vanilla, everyday, run-of-the-mill nudity.

If there is, I can’t find it. Filmratings.com doesn’t say. Neither does MPAA.org. Several Google searches, phrased in a variety of interesting and provocative ways, failed to turn up anything more than speculation.

For the record, “Hit and Run” appears to be a comic reinvention of the decidedly unfunny “A History of Violence” in that a bad guy reinvents himself, goes straight and falls for a girl who doesn’t know his sordid past, which comes roaring back. The scene that may have prompted the disclaimer is hinted at in the trailer and the above photo (which prompted a panicky NSFW moment this morning when I pulled it off a press website). Shepard and his girlfriend (Kristen Bell) open the door to the wrong apartment, interrupting what looks to be the beginnings of an aging-swingers orgy. This leads to lots of wrinkly, floppy, full-frontal exposure. Definitely graphic.

But they’re not really doing anything. Yet. So is that it, or is there something else later?

The Google speculation seemed to focus on genitalia exposure; a mere topless scene is apparently considered garden-variety nudity. But the consensus seems to be that mere exposure may not be enough; it’s what was being done with it that counts.

It’s like the difference between “naked” and “nekkid” as defined by the late comedian/writer Lewis Grizzard. “Naked,” he said at a press-convention luncheon address I attended long ago, “means you ain’t got no clothes on. Nekkid means you ain’t got no clothes on and you’re up to somethin’.”

If that applies to the movies, “graphic nudity” must mean that you’re not just sitting around naked, minding your own business, bothering no one. It means taking your clothes off was just the beginning. Your next move might be to, oh, I dunno, buying cigarettes at a rural convenience store or something.

All of this pubic-hair splitting drives James Berardinelli nuts. A respected online critic (Roger Ebert has praised him many times), Berardinelli is a frequent essayist on the ridiculousness of the MPAA, including this piece, in which he writes of his first encounter with the term.

What prompted this MPAA rant was a scene in the 2005 Jim Jarmusch film “Broken Flowers” in which a naked woman walks into a room, smiles at Bill Murray and walks out. That’s it. (Word is this happens to Murray everywhere he goes, but that’s another story).

”Frankly, it’s a lot tamer than some nude scenes in films that have not been labeled as containing ‘graphic nudity.’ ” Berardinelli wrote of the three-second scene.

His conclusion? ” ‘Graphic nudity’ is what is more commonly referred to as ‘full frontal.’ Or at least that’s what I think it means. I’ll need to see some more “graphic nudity” before making a final determination.”

That was in 2005. Wonder what he thinks now? And does he need a part-time researcher?

Braun: You're bothering me

There's a lot of breathless prose pouring out of Hollywood these days about The Nymphomaniac, an upcoming Lars Von Trier movie that will feature famous people having real sex, as opposed to fake, movie-type sex.

Holy simulacrum, Batman! As you no doubt ask yourself at every movie sex scene, "Is it the real turtle soup, or is it the mock?" it's a good thing Von Trier plans to answer all these questions of the universe.

The Nymphomaniac is a two-part film scheduled for release sometime in 2013 and it examines a woman's erotic journey from birth to age 50. Press releases about the film suggest that it begins with the woman in question discovered beaten up in an alley; this could be viewed as an unfortunate nod to Von Trier's general view of women, but let's not speculate. And we won't question why the story ends when the woman is 50 -- she has a best-by date, maybe? The important bits are lost among the wrinkles? She finally finds her glasses? We'll find out soon enough.

The round-heeled storyteller of the title will likely be played by Charlotte Gainsbourg; one of the reasons the movie has had a lot of notice lately is that Shia LaBeouf has joined the cast.

LaBeouf, who has already shown the world his willy in a music video, says he is "Terrified" to be part of the project, calls Von Trier dangerous and says, -¦There's a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says we're doing it for real. Everything that is illegal, we'll shoot in blurred images. Other than that, everything is happening."

That's all euphemism chat for actual sexual activity. Illegal activity? What are we talking here? Farm animals? Golly.

First actor who signed on for the movie is Stellan Skarsgard, who says the director has already told him he won't be doing any real-time shagging in the film. "I said okay, he said, 'But you will show your d--- at the end, and it will be very floppy.'" Hmmnn. Worth leaving home for?

Other bodies said to be turning up in the film include Nicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe. The movie could be released in two versions: soft core and hard core, with porn stars in the latter. One assumes that close-up shots of Tab A being inserted into Slot B is the distinguishing difference.

Meanwhile, one of the producers of The Nymphomaniac says the movie is actually quite funny. That sounds about right.

New Horror Documentary : Paranormal Diaries

Paranormal Diaries is going to take a stab at the fortunes that Paranormal Activity and you can checkout the trailer which is NSFW due to nudity below.

In March 1963, a black mass was held at a ruined church in Clophill, Bedfordshire by a coven of dark witches. Tombs were looted, animals sacrificed and human bones arranged during a macabre ceremony. Further defilement continued at Clophill in the following years, with cattle in nearby fields found mutilated, evidence of necromancy discovered and perpetual sightings of paranormal activity witnessed at the isolated ruin. 50 years on from the original incident, the Clophill legend remains etched on the psyches of the local populace.

In 2010, a documentary team was assembled to investigate the legend of the Clophill witches and to try and uncover the truth behind the paranormal events. What followed during that long weekend at Clophill was a terrifying journey into the unknown.

‘I got involved in threesomes, foursomes and moresomes' - Ireland's underground sex scene exposed

ALL over the country and all around the world, hot and bothered women have been hiding their flushed faces behind their E-readers as they collectively devour the erotic bestseller ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.

Now a 24-year-old Irish woman has penned a book that she claims details the years she spent immersed in this country's underground sex scene: a world of swingers' parties, secretive S-and-M sessions, gangbangs and orgies.

And the account of her adventures has shot to the top of the Irish book charts.

"Can You Keep a Secret" published this week under a pseudonym and written with journalist Robert Carry is also flying up the e-book chart on Amazon in the US.

The pseudonymous author ‘Katie’s’ story is the real Fifty Shades.

"By 21, I was the youngest, filthiest and most popular girl in Dublin's underground sex scene and I milked it for all it was worth," she writes.

It is a biographical work that at times reads like a raunchier version of ‘Fifty Shades’ but which Katie insists is based on her own experiences of a real world secreted away in the dark corners of our society.

Chenile Keogh of Y-Books says: "It tells the story of what happened when a Dublin girl's sex life went way, way out of control. It shines a light into the darkest corners of the Irish underground sex scene."

She said that ‘Katie's' name was changed to protect her identity – but she said her story was verified to ensure it was fact and not fiction.

So, why did this normal Dublin girl go to the very edge of what is sexually acceptable in society and then let herself fall over the precipice into a world seen as totally taboo by most?

"I wanted to try new things, even though it was terrifying. I wanted to put myself outside my comfort zone," she tells me.

At her first S-and-M party she instinctively adopted the submissive persona, allowing herself to be yanked around on a lead by her dominant, a friend who had agreed to introduce her to the capital's fetish scene.

That evening ended with Katie strapped to a table, being whipped with a cat-o'-nine tails in a dungeon in Dublin city centre as a crowd of leather-clad ‘doms' and gimp-suited ‘subs' looked on.

Katie is adamant that her journey into this clandestine world gave her a confidence she had always lacked.

"Maybe everyone should experience that level of elation," she says. "It helped me to grow as a person."

Katie got hooked on online chat rooms when she was still in her early teens – an obsession that escalated to the point where the schoolgirl was performing via webcam for men across the world.

But Katie still hadn't even been kissed.

Her first sexual experience was at 14 with a rough and dominating 25-year-old garda (police) she met online.

A string of hook-ups with random strangers from the internet followed.

Katie acknowledges that much of what she did exposed her to great risk.

Later in life, she found herself being drawn to even more extreme sexual practices and spent her days seeking out casual encounters with men she barely knew.

On one occasion she had sex with different men in three different places in one day.

Swinging took to her to private homes and anonymous hotel function rooms across the country, where participants enjoyed all-night sex sessions.

The men she encountered were surgeons, financial advisers, gardai and paramedics.

Currently, Katie is single and I ask if the break-up of her last relationship had anything to do with swapping kinky, exciting encounters with multiple partners for what many would deem a more ‘normal' sex life.

"We were having problems," she says. "But I was used to doing it with different people, and I guess it maybe lacked that excitement."

The prospect of her sexploits being a source of arousal for people doesn't faze Katie.

"I'd actually think it would be more enjoyable to know that it's real. It's good for people to realise this stuff does happen."

Katie has read Fifty Shades, but she wouldn't be recommending it to friends.

"Because I'd done it myself, it just couldn't keep my interest. I kept thinking: ‘That's not true, that would never happen."

It seems that the truth is even kinkier than fiction.

Fifty Shades Of Grey has been blamed for a surge in women visiting an adultery website

The number of active females to every man on MaritalAffair.co.uk has more than doubled in the last three months, according to latest figures.

Site owner Paul Graham said wet weather and Olympic fever had also boosted the number of people flocking to the site.

‘The past three months have stirred up a very interesting mix,' he said.

'We entered into summer with hot weather, followed by weeks of constant rain so maybe women were seeking a lift from summer blues.

'Then there was the Olympics and all the corporate events that go with it taking men away from the home for days at a time.

'Finally the world got obsessed with the book, Fifty Shades of Grey, telling women that there are men out there who are real men if only you look.

'It's quite the perfect storm to lead to ladies looking for an extra bit of naughtiness.'

The bestseller is also believed to be the reason behind a surge in the number of people watching ‘risque’ films.

Viewer numbers for LoveFilm’s ‘Something Saucy’ collection have risen 55 per cent in the five months since the kinky novel hit the shelves.

Secretary which stars Maggie Gyllenhaal as a personal assistant who enters a dark relationship with her boss Mr Grey – the same name as the love interest in EL James’s novel – has seen a 300 per cent increase in viewers.

Mahesh Bhatt on the Hypocrisy of Indian Audiences 

At a time when mainstream Hindi cinema was largely confined to family dramas and love triangles, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt broke new ground with award-winning exposés and hard-hitting dramas on topics ranging from extramarital affairs (“Arth,” 1982) to communal tensions (“Zakhm,” 1998). But recently, Mr. Bhatt has opened up to commercial potboilers.

The director-turned-producer has pioneered erotic films in India, a genre that is picking up but that is still broadly considered a taboo in the country.

Comes as no surprise then, that Mr. Bhatt’s latest erotic thriller “Jism 2,” starring Indo-Canadian porn star Sunny Leone, was embroiled in a series of controversies, with many saying the film was just too daring for Indian audiences.

In a recent interview, Mr. Bhatt spoke to The Wall Street Journal about what pushed him to explore erotica in Bollywood, why porn star Ms. Leone was picked as the lead in “Jism 2” and why, in his view, Indian viewers are a bunch of hypocrites.

Edited excerpts:

WSJ: Why shift from hard-hitting films like “Arth” and “Saaransh” in the 1980s to erotic thrillers like “Zeher,” “Murder” and, more recently, “Jism”?
Mr. Bhatt: Every film is a byproduct of the era it’s made in. India in the 1980s, for instance, had not opened up to world influences. Post 1992, with the influx of globalization and privatization, images started pouring in from the word over, and this gradually changed the consciousness of India.
Indian cinema, too, moved with the times: Films were no longer made to edify audiences but to gratify them. It is around this time that we decided to eroticize Hindi cinema and found success with “Raaz” [2002], “Jism” [2003] and, soon after, “Murder” [2004]. The commercial success of these films made it clear that if we wanted to stay afloat without leaning on star power, we would have to bank on this genre.

WSJ: If erotica sells in Bollywood, why, then, do many in India still take to the streets to protest against such films?
Mr. Bhatt: Good people fall in love and only bad people have sex. That’s the culture so-called custodians of our culture have driven down. People who claim that these [erotic] films contaminate our sacred Indian space are the same ones who actually love watching them. Its Indian hypocrisy at its best: Give it to us but don’t tell us that we want it.
Audiences here don’t want to reveal their deeper yearnings to themselves, least of all to the world. We are a posturing nation. I say this because box office figures of [erotic] franchise films like the Raaz, Murder and Jism speak for themselves. Jism 2, which was made on a 60-million-rupee budget (around $1 million), for instance, earned 310 million rupees in its opening weekend itself. I have made a bunch of serious films as well but none of them can come close to even the toenail of the business that this film has done.
Make films that we tell you to make but we actually won’t see. And the ones that we do quietly see, we’ll openly claim that they pollute our culture. That’s Indian audiences for you!

WSJ: So when will Indian audiences finally break free from the “no-touching, no-kissing” fad?
Mr. Bhatt: Mindsets change very slowly. I don’t see that phase wherein audiences will take off their masks and just be the way they are. As of now, we’re still far from being emancipated.

WSJ: Jism 2 was embroiled in its share of controversies as well. But after all the hullabaloo around the film, some actually slammed it as “conservative.” Why?
Mr. Bhatt: Because the audiences were clamoring for sleaze and not the filmmakers!
The filmmakers were trying to drive home a concept that there is a yearning to find conservative love in the porn industry, which was portrayed by Sunny Leone’s character. People were not willing to tune into the narrative, which was a slow burner. Instead, they were superimposing their own perversion, which comes when a porn star is cast in a film, and that made them believe that the movie is not dirty enough.

WSJ: Was the decision to cast Sunny Leone just a marketing gimmick?
Mr. Bhatt: Marketing is the life blood of the entertainment industry. Salman Khan is not cast because he happens to be the greatest actor in Indian cinema. He’s cast because he happens to be the greatest draw. Sunny Leone was taken for the same reason. It was very clear that we wanted it to be a marketing victory — and it was.

WSJ: Murder had no connection whatsoever with Murder 2. Similarly, Jism had little to do with Jism 2.  Why did you choose to stick to the same titles anyways?
Mr. Bhatt: We like to use a brand to its optimum. In our films, we work without stars, so it’s the brand that gets elevated to that level. Some of our brands, which have attained certain recognition in society, have helped position new releases – Raaz 2 has worked, Murder 2 has worked and now, so has Jism 2.

WSJ: What’s next on the cards?
Mr. Bhatt: A 3D horror film, Raaz 3, is on the cards next month. The film traces the life of a paranoid actress, who fears losing her stardom, and, in turn, embraces the devil to keep afloat and deal with her rival. [The film stars Bipasha Basu, Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta and opens in Indian theatres on Sept. 7.]

In her five years as a XXX performer, Black has become a superstar to fans and members of the porn community alike with roles in films for some of the most renowned studios in the business and amassed a mountain of awards along the way.

Black reached a career pinnacle when she became the first actress in history to claim back-to-back Female Performer of the Year honors at the 2010 and 2011 Adult Video News Awards.

Tori embarked on a hiatus from the adult industry shortly following the 2011 AVN ceremony to focus on becoming a parent and gave birth to a baby boy last October. Since then, the popular brunette starlet has gradually re-emerged on the X-rated scene and recently shot for Zero Tolerance Entertainment’s upcoming feature film Official The Hangover Parody.

Tori kindly spoke with XXX Wasteland on the morning of August 18 to discuss life as a new parent, her future career plans, the exciting DVD and website projects she is currently working on and more.

Let’s start at the beginning: Can you tell us how you initially entered the adult industry?
I was 18 and just out of school for the summer, and I was definitely getting antsy back at my mom’s house. So, I was looking for a job that would pay well enough so that I could still live on my own.
I was looking on Craigslist for a go-go dancing position to just be a dancer at a club – not even a strip club. I came across an ad that an agency had placed for girls in the industry. It said, “Do you want to make $20,000 dollars a month?” And you know, an 18-year-old college student looks at that and your eyes pop out of your head. You’re like, “$20,000 a month? I’m going to be filthy rich!”
I didn’t know if I wanted to do it, necessarily, but I sent in my pictures just to see what they would say. They told me they would pay for my plane ticket down to Florida and I took it. Within a week, I was gone and getting ready to shoot my first movie.

You are the only adult actress to ever win back-to-back AVN Awards for Female Performer of the Year in 2010 and 2011. How did it feel to make history by taking home those honors consecutively?
You know, it’s pretty surreal. I guess I wasn’t really expecting it. I was hosting and was ready to give the award away. I had a little moment where I was excited and going to pass the crown on. I was completely comfortable to let it go. So, when they called my name, I was pretty surprised, shocked. (Laughs)
I guess it really still hasn’t sunk in. I don’t really look at myself as a history-maker, record-breaker, award-earner, or whatever. I guess in my mind it was a pat on the back for the work that I had done. It’s always been incredible and I am more than appreciative to AVN and every company that has shot me to get to the place that I am at.
I guess it’s just surreal. The fact that nobody else has done it, I want to go back and check the books to make sure because I’m saying, “Me? Really? Me?” (Laughs) I never really strived for it, so to be blessed with it is just surreal.

Absolutely. You debuted in 2007, is that right?
Yes, I entered the industry in 2007.

You mentioned the surrealism of winning the back-to-back AVNs. When you look back – because that is a relatively short period of time taking into account everything you have accomplished – does it ever seem surreal to realize that five years ago you were just beginning your career?
Yeah, of course! So much has happened that it feels like a big whirlwind. When I look back, it almost doesn’t even feel like my life. I mean, it is my life, but I take out my passport and look at all the stamps that I have, I think about all the places I’ve been, all the flights I have been on, things that I’ve seen, people I have met and all the things I have done – it is just absolutely incredible. It’s just a blessing, it really is. To be so accomplished and successful in such a short amount of time, it doesn’t happen to a lot of people and I’m glad that the industry and the fans who have kept with me and supported my career, I couldn’t be more appreciative.

Absolutely. While reading up on you, I was unsure of one thing and wanted to ask: Have you officially retired from performing on camera with other talent?

No. Right now, I’m just taking time away. Obviously, I just had my son and am taking time to be a stay-at-home mom.
For now, I’m only doing solos. I’m pretty much just shooting for my website. Once in a while, I’ll work for other people, but pretty much, I’m just shooting for myself and that is allowing me the flexibility to stay at home.
I’m not sure what my plans are for the future. I like to keep fans guessing (Laughs), so I don’t want to give them any kind of hint as to when I’m going to come back, if I’m going to come back, what I’m going to do, any of that. I’ll just say anything is possible and you never know what is on the horizon.

Right. You did recently make an appearance for Zero Tolerance Entertainment in the company’s parody of The Hangover. Can you tell us about shooting that movie and your role in the film?
I play the wife that gets stranded back while everybody goes to Vegas. I think it’s fun because I get to be really sassy and a lot of the time people like to make me the innocent one. I don’t know why. (Laughs) They always want to make me a soft, gentle-hearted person instead of trying to be sassy.
But it was a day like any other day on the set – lots of people, lots of cameras, lots of getting in and out of the makeup chair. Shooting for Zero Tolerance is always great. I had a great time. Lexi Belle was on set, Kimberly Kane, James Deen, Dane Cross – and we all just kicked back and had a good time.

Very nice. Speaking as a top name in adult, are there any misconceptions about the industry from those outside of it that bother you?
Well, I think the biggest one is that people assume you are available for purchase wherever you go. Because of the fact that you get paid to do what you do on camera, they think they can pay you to do what you do off camera. It’s not that I feel one way or another about it, but people get pretty pushy. In a very condescending way, they sort of look at you like, “Well, you have to have a price.” I guess that is the biggest thing that bothers me because people become very abrasive when they come to you with proposals and requests. The first time you ask me, I’ll say no politely, and the second time I’m not going to be so nice anymore because I already told you no. So, when people just assume that you have a “For Sale” sign on your back, that really bothers me because not everybody is like that. There are some girls that enjoy doing that and I don’t have anything against them, it’s just not me. So, when people just assume that, it kind of irks me.

Right. You mentioned becoming a mother – that was last October, I believe?
Yes.

I just wanted to ask about the past 10 months, how you have enjoyed life as a parent and in what ways it has changed you.
Whew! Anybody who is a parent knows that when you become a parent, everything changes. Absolutely everything changes. You don’t look at yourself the same, you don’t look at life the same. Your scope becomes so much bigger. You think about the future far, far, far in advance. Things become worthwhile. Little, tiny things that you never paid attention to, you now pay attention to.
It’s incredibly beautiful. Each little thing that he does is a blessing upon itself and my life has improved a thousand percent. I couldn’t be more happy being a mom and it just feels right. It feels like this is where I should be and that he was meant for me. There is nothing more I could ask for right now.

Wonderful. May I ask a few questions about yourself as a person if that’s alright?
Yes, you can.

Great. Can you tell us where you were raised and how you would describe yourself growing up?
I was born in Seattle and raised right around the area. I was a feisty little kid. I was always the one that gave everybody hugs, but I was always the one that gave everyone really big attitude, too. (Laughs) I was just very sassy, very spirited, and I wanted to do things my own way – and nothing has changed. (Laughs)

(Laughs) How about interests and hobbies away from work?
I like to dance, I like yoga, I really enjoy spending time with my other baby – my fur baby. I love animals. I like nature, so pretty much anything outside. Lately, I’ve been swimming a lot. I just like being outside, so whether it’s hiking or mountain biking … I really would just go for a walk outside. I like to be outside. (Laughs)

How about favorites – favorite food, movies, musical artists, etc.?
This is so hard for me because depending on the day, I have a different personality, so I have a different favorite. (Laughs) Fight Club is a favorite that I just watched that is at the top of my head. Quills is another favorite. I love Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I love Just Friends, one of my favorite comedies. So, there’s some movies. I could go on and on, so I’ll stop at those. (Laughs)
Favorite artist – that’s really rough because I like just about every category of music. Eminem is one of my favorite lyricists. He’s been a favorite of mine since high school. I like Karmin. I like Jill Scott for slower music. I like Peaches. I like all types of things. Breaking Benjamin for some rock. I really go all over the board, so it’s really hard to pick a favorite artist.
Favorite food? Breakfast and Mexican combined. A breakfast burrito is the best thing in the world. That’s my favorite thing. But I also like lasagna. That’s one of my favorites, homemade lasagna – a mushroom lasagna. Recently, I’ve been obsessed with eggplant tofu. (Laughs) So, there’s some favorite foods.

Nice. You get major cool points for mentioning Karmin as a favorite musical act. (Laughs) They are one of those groups that most people don’t mention – they’re sort of tucked away a little bit. But I love their song “Brokenhearted” – I can listen to it over and over again.
(Laughs) Yeah, they’re alright.

How about current and upcoming projects – is there anything in that regard that you would like to mention?
Yup – I am working hard every day on TheRealToriBlack.com, my blog site. That comes with a free membership. And I’m working on my website every day, ToriBlack.com – that’s obviously the hardcore membership. Those sites work together and they are really my main focus right now.
We are also producing a line of DVDs that are exclusive limited edition, so the content has never been seen anywhere before and we’re only releasing 500 copies. So, very limited edition. And it’s going to be priority for fans who come to see me at public appearances.
We’re doing a thing where we’re going to make several volumes of this exclusive DVD and the people who collect all of them are going to receive a special gift at the end of all the volumes.

Very cool.
Yeah. So, those are our projects that we’re working on, but pretty much I’m just working for Tori Black, Inc. right now. Once in a while, like I said, I work for other people, but my main focus right now is doing our stuff and the reason being is so that I can get a chance to show people what is in my head and in my mind, my heart.
Things are more authentic. There is a lot of reality stuff being shot, a lot of unplanned, caught-off-guard scenes – and genuinely caught off guard. That’s something that I feel is missing in the industry. We have a lot of, “Let’s pretend they are caught off guard” things, but you are still prepared for what’s to come. And I want to do a lot of things in my personal life where I am caught off guard.
So, we have a lot of fresh material going up on ToriBlack.com and a whole makeover for the site as well. So, we’re very excited and the re-launch will be coming within the month.

Awesome. Is there anything you would like to say in closing to readers?
I would like to say thank you to all my fans. Throughout my entire career, I have received nothing but love and support. It’s absolutely incredible and I’m hoping to give back a little bit, so hopefully they will join my free blog site and if you want to, join my hardcore site as well.
